Box in book form

This box is made of solid mahogany with cross bars supporting four sliding lids. Each lid has a square inlay of ebony or ebonized wood and a carved finger hold. The back cover design subtly echoes the front. Diamond and star mother-of-pearl inlays, and chip-carved borders decorate the spine. The book’s edges are rough and may have originally been covered with another material.
