Sitter Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha British
Not on view
The prince is shown full-length, wearing robes of the Order of the Garter, with collars of the Order of the Garter, Bath and Golden Fleece around his neck. He holds a field marshal's baton in his left hand, and the Garter's motto, "Honi Soi Qui Mal Y Pense," appears on the floor below. Based on a painting by Winterhalter of 1843, the wood engraving was issued as supplement to "The Pictorial Times," a London weekly issued March 1843–January 1848. The collection also includes a similarly sized portrait print of Queen Victoria, the prince's spouse (18.17.1-45) from the same journal.
