Hope

British artist Jadé Fadojutimi has in her rising career made a fresh and significant contribution to abstract painting. Her expressive and colorful paintings document her daily experience navigating the world of emotions and pursuit of self-knowledge. Hope is an outstanding example of Fadojutimi’s lyrical, spontaneous, and expansive style. Divided in two horizontal registers, the composition resembles a sweeping and fancifully colored landscape. Broad strokes of pink, fluorescent yellow, and gossamer purple, reinforced by sinuous turquoise lines and punctuated by a spectral orb from which aquamarine, neon orange, red, and purple spheres proceed, suggest a crepuscular sky. Alternately densely or loosely layered globules of highlighter green, yellow, orange, white, and purple form hills and ravines traversed by a web of electric blues. The contrast of pearlescent passages and waxy waves of oil bar creates a shimmering effect. Fadojutimi’s titles often consist of poetic phrases or evocative prose. Hope is a distinctly monosyllabic imperative; a simple message for complex times.
