Plate part of a collection of 30 pochoir pattern plates, originally part of a book titled "Les fleurs et leurs applications décoratives" (Flowers and their decorative applications), created by Émile-Allain Séguy and published in Paris by A. Calavas, as part of the collection "Librairie des Arts Decoratifs" (Library of Decorative Arts) in 1902. The plate features four ornamental designs inspired on the natural beauty of orchids, providing what Séguy considered a successful example of the application of scientific study of flowers in artistic creation, resulting in colorful designs likely intended for textiles or wallpapers. The first design is made up of bundles with pairs of stylized orchids, colored with white and red, and interlacing leaves, colored with dark shades of green, which emerge from semi-abstract cones, colored with bluish-gray, over a brown ground. The second consists of a grid made up of pairs of vertical and horizontal lines, with knots formed on the intersections, colored with blue, and thin, interlacing branches with leaves, colored with shades of green, and stylized orchids, their petals colored with white, the pistils and stamina colored with shades of pink, over a pastel green ground. The third design is made up of horizontal garlands of scrolling, stylized leaves, colored with shades of blue, and stylized orchids, executed with white, green, and shades of brown and red, over a light blue ground with pairs ov thin, vertical, blue lines. The fourth design is made up of a horizontal thin, undulating branch with stylized leaves, colored with green and with thin, green outlines, and with groups of three semi-abstract orchids, colroed with two shades of purple, inside thin, interlacing rings with semi-abstract thorns, over a light green ground.
