Large Flower Basket (Hanakago)

Iizuka Hōsai II Japanese

Not on view

Like many bamboo artists of his time, Iizuka Hōsai II spent his early career producing the Chinese-style (karamono) works preferred among literati circles. This large flower basket in the shape of an ancient Chinese bronze vessel exhibits seamlessly intertwined, alternating plaiting patterns and rattan accents.
