Plate 1 of a series of designs for mantelpieces. This plate shows two variants of a mantelpiece. Over the fireplace is a mirror, on either side paneling. The left side has more subdued decoration while the right side is more exuberant. For instance, the right side of the fireplace includes a winged term and there is a garland hanging on the right side of the mirror. Finally, the spandrels and center of the paneling on the right side is decorated with foliage scrolls.
