Statue Group with Two Prostrate Men
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. This object is not part of The Met collection. It was in the Museum for a special exhibition and has been returned to the lender.
Depicted here are two seemingly unrelated men, the governor Hor(em)- hatankh (left) and the governor Nakhthor the elder (right), as they perform the ritual "kissing the earth" before an image of a deity or the king. Their names are inscribed in front of their faces on the base of the statue. A third figure and inscription placed between them was intentionally removed, probably because the individual had fallen from favor.
