Untitled

Guillermo Kuitca Argentinian
1991
Not on view
In the late 1980s Kuitca began to reference architecture and topography in his work, from house plans to city maps. In Untitled, the artist silkscreened part of a map of Zurich onto an unstretched canvas. The canvas was subsequently laid on the floor, where successive applications of watered-down acrylic paints were poured. Before stretching the canvas, the artist scratched its surface, causing the map to blur. Evoking an aerial view of Zurich on a foggy day, Untitled charts the uncertain territories of memory and the imagination, of place and belonging.
