Imitation Splashware Dish

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 453

This dish’s decoration of concentric bands and gridded central roundel are typical of Nishapur splashware, and several other examples like this one were found during the excavations. Unusual, however, is the purplish-black glaze, which has disintegrated in some areas, leaving blank spots on the surface of the dish.
