This exquisite Federal pictorial family record has much to say about the ideals of the young country and the importance of educating women. The beautifully worked center reserve depicts a woman reading a book sitting under a unique architectural structure—an outdoor pavilion with a round domed roof, draped and curtained sides, and a checkerboard floor.
Purchased recently by the dealer from a collector, who had purchased elsewhere, not directly from the maker's family. No further provenance known.
