Staff List

Ellenor Alcorn, Curator, joined the staff of the department in 2010, and is responsible for The Met's collection of British and French silver and base metals such as pewter and wrought iron. She is also the lead curator for the renovation of the British galleries, scheduled to open in 2018. Her publications have concentrated on British silver from the 16th to 18th century.
Denise Allen, Curator, joined the staff of the department in 2014. Her area of specialty is Italian Renaissance sculpture, with a focus on the work of Benvenuto Cellini. As a curator at the Frick Collection (2003–2014), she curated six exhibitions dedicated to the art of the bronze statuette, including: Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Hill Collection (2014), Antico (2012), Andrea Riccio (2008), and European Bronzes from the Quentin Collection (2004). Denise was the associate curator of paintings at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (1995–2002). She received her MA from the New York University Institute of Fine Arts in 1984.

Elizabeth Benjamin
Elizabeth Benjamin, Research Associate, is currently assisting the exhibition Visitors to Versailles, 1682–1789. A specialist in 19th-century art, she wrote her dissertation on Gustave Caillebotte's representation of the bourgeois interior (Northwestern University) and holds a BA in art history and French from the University of California, Berkeley. Her doctoral research has been supported by the Northwestern University Presidential Fellowship and the Bourse Jeanne Marandon.
Lizzie Cleland Elizabeth Cleland, Associate Curator, has worked at The Met since 2004, and is responsible for post-medieval European tapestries and northern European glass and enamels. She was lead curator of the exhibition Grand Design: Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Renaissance Tapestry (2014). She lectures and teaches regularly; has published widely on 15th-, 16th-, and 17th-century tapestries; and co-edited Tapestry in the Baroque: New Aspects of Production and Patronage. She has contributed to numerous exhibition catalogues and to the permanent-collection catalogues of British, American, and Canadian museums. She studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art and received her MA and PhD as a British Academy scholar.

Marva Harvey, Collections Associate

Kristen Hudson, Assistant Administrator, joined the staff of the department in the fall of 2014. She previously worked in the Collections and Exhibitions and Education Departments at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her BA in art history from Vanderbilt University and MA in museum studies from New York University.

Daniëlle Kisluk-Grosheide, Henry R. Kravis Curator, joined the staff of the department in 1984. She is responsible for the French, English, and Dutch furniture collections and the French period rooms. Daniëlle supervised the 2006 renovation of The Wrightsman Galleries for French Decorative Arts, and, in 2013, she was the co-curator of an exhibition at Bard Graduate Center on the origins of French decorative arts at The Met. She has lectured and written extensively on various aspects of European decorative arts, and is preparing the 2017 exhibition Visitors to Versailles, 1682–1789. She is graduate of the Free University in Amsterdam and Leiden University.

Wolfram Koeppe, Marina Kellen French Curator, joined The Met in 1992 after working at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He lectures and teaches, is involved in The Met's media programs, and is known for his development efforts. Among his exhibitions are Extravagant Inventions: The Princely Furniture by the Roentgens (2012) and Art of the Royal Court: Treasures in Pietre Dure from the Palaces of Europe (2008; voted "Exhibition of the Year" by Apollo Magazine). A video clip of the Berlin cabinet went viral on YouTube with more than 11 million hits. Many of his acquisitions are masterpieces included in The Metropolitan Museum of Art Guide (2012).

Ana Matisse Donefer-Hickie
Ana Matisse Donefer-Hickie, Research Associate, is currently assisting with an exhibition on the intersections of art, science and technology, and entertainment in early-modern court culture. She holds an MA from the Bard Graduate Center in the history decorative arts, design, and material culture, where her qualifying paper on the private glass workshop of Archduke Ferdinand II won the 2017 Clive Wainwright Award. She holds a BA Honors in history of science and technology from the University of King's College, Halifax.
Nicholas Merkelson, Collections Management Associate, joined the staff of the department in 2013. Before arriving at The Met, Nicholas worked in museum cataloguing and inventory projects, including photographing Vodou altars at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. He has also conducted archaeological excavations in Kenya and Spain, where he discovered a 50,000-year-old Neanderthal skull. Nicholas received a BA in religion and archaeology from Carleton College and completed his MA in cultural heritage studies from the University College London.
Iris Moon
Iris Moon, Assistant Curator, joined the department in 2017 and is responsible for ceramics. She is the author of Percier and Fontaine and the Struggle for Sovereignty in Revolutionary France (2016) and has written and lectured widely on the French decorative arts. Prior to joining the Museum, she taught at Pratt Institute and had fellowships at The Met, the Clark Art Institute, and the Getty Research Institute. She earned her undergraduate degree at Williams College and her PhD at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Elyse Nelson
Elyse Nelson, Research Associate, is currently assisting two sculpture exhibitions, Rodin at The Met and Like Life: Sculpture, Color, and the Body. A specialist in 18th- and 19th-century European art, she is a doctoral candidate at The Institute of Fine Arts, where she is writing a dissertation on Antonio Canova's late work and British patronage. She received her BA in art history from Yale University and an MA from The Courtauld Institute of Art. Her doctoral research has been supported by fellowships from The Met, the Paul Mellon Centre, and New York University.
Erin Pick
Erin E. Pick, Senior Administrator, oversees departmental operations and manages the Wrightsman Fellows and the Friends of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts. Erin received a BA in American studies and art history from the University of Iowa, an MA in museum studies from University College London, and a certificate in arts administration from New York University. She is currently pursuing an MS in fundraising management at Columbia University. Erin has worked at the Boston Athenaeum, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and Dulwich Picture Gallery.
Julia A. Siemon, Assistant Research Curator, is currently curating an exhibition on late Renaissance silver (opening December 2017), and editing and co-authoring an accompanying volume. She holds a PhD from Columbia University, and carried out research for her doctoral dissertation, "Bronzino, Politics and Portraiture in 1530s Florence," with fellowships from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and the Medici Archive Project. She has presented papers at several conferences, including the College Art Association and the Renaissance Society of America, and has been invited to speak at the British Institute in Florence and the Frick Collection in New York. She is a lecturer at Columbia University.

Elizabeth St. George, Senior Research Associate, is currently assisting the reinstallation of the British Sculpture and Decorative Arts galleries. She is a visiting lecturer at Pratt Institute and a doctoral candidate at Bard Graduate Center, from which she also received her MA. A specialist in 19th- and 20th-century architecture and design, her dissertation is a study on the migration of modernist Czechoslovak artists, designers, and architects to America from the 1920s through the postwar period.

Luke Syson, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Chairman, joined the British Museum as curator of medals in 1991, and he co-authored Objects of Virtue: Art in Renaissance Italy and co-curated the Enlightenment gallery. In 2002, he joined the staff of the Victoria and Albert Museum to plan new medieval and Renaissance galleries, and in 2003, he began at the National Gallery, London. As curator of Italian painting before 1500 and head of research, his exhibitions there included Renaissance Siena (2007) and Leonardo da Vinci (2011). He joined The Met in 2012, and co-curated Plain or Fancy? Restraint and Exuberance in the Decorative Arts (2013) and the gallery for Venetian sculpture (2014).

Juan Stacey, Supervising Departmental Technician, joined the Museum in 2006 and has served in his current role since 2012. He oversees the safe movement of the department's collection within the building and helps to maintain the integrity of both the objects and the galleries. He holds a BFA with a concentration in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia and a certificate in collections management from the New York University School of Continuing Professional Studies.

Denny Stone, Senior Collections Manager, works with the department's curators and conservators to oversee the physical and documentary care of the collection. She joined the department in 2006 after holding positions in collections management and conservation in numerous New York City institutions. Prior to shifting her focus to the management of collections, she was curator of costumes and textiles for the San Diego History Center. She is an adjunct faculty member in the graduate and undergraduate programs of Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, and the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she teaches museum studies and the history of jewelry and fashion.

Melinda Watt, Associate Curator, is responsible for European textiles (excluding tapestries) and fans, and is supervising curator for the Antonio Ratti Textile Center. She was co-curator of the exhibition Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade, 1550–1800 (2013). She previously collaborated on an exhibition of The Met's English Tudor– and Stuart–era embroideries at Bard Graduate Center; the exhibition catalogue was awarded the Textile Society of America's Annual Book Award in 2008. She has taught on various textile history topics at New York University, Bard Graduate Center, and CUNY. She has also organized a number of smaller textile installations at The Met.

Sam Winks, Senior Departmental Technician, is an art handler in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.
