Social and Emotional Learning through Art

Lessons for the Classroom

Social and Emotional Learning through Art contains thirty lesson plans that strengthen Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in the classroom as well as evidence-based reasoning and critical thinking, through art. The lessons, featuring works in The Met collection, are grouped into five units developed as part of school partnerships. The units can be used as they are sequenced; the six lessons in each build on existing themes, projects, and SEL skills. This resource is a flexible tool for educators at all grade levels and across disciplines to use and adapt to meet the learning needs and goals of their students. Included in the lessons are images of the works of art, questions, key information, and activities.

This resource for educators is made possible by The New York Community Trust.
