Introduction

Nishapur, a city in northeastern Iran, was a prosperous commercial city from the ninth to the thirteenth centuries due to its prime location on the Silk Road.

The City of Nishapur

Nishapur was an important economic center due to its location on a trade route, known as the Silk Road, which extended from China to the Mediterranean Sea.

The Metropolitan Museum's Archaeological Excavations

The Museum's team worked at Nishapur between 1935 and 1940 and returned for a final season in the winter of 1947–48.
