The case of this book-shaped box is carved from a single piece of wood. The opening on the foredge is covered by a lid with sliding dovetail edges. The case is engraved on all sides with architectural scenes in scrimshaw technique, framed by chip-carved banding. The sliding lid is carved in relief to depict a narrow niche with columned arch. Inside is an engraved soldier standing guard.
