This gallery presents an outstanding collection of painted coffins from the so-called Third Intermediate Period (ca. 1070–712 B.C.) and Late Period (712–525 B.C.). Excavated by the Museum's archaeologists, these coffins come in sets, comprising an outer and inner coffin and a lid that covered the mummy. Religious scenes of unparalleled variety are painted on all surfaces.
