Another ewer so similar to this one that both might have been made from the same mold was found near the mausoleum of the last Umayyad caliph, Marwan II, at Abu Sir in Egypt. Even though the decoration is clearly related to Sasanian motifs, ewers of this type were probably produced in Syria for the Umayyad and early cAbbasid caliphs.
