The Waverly Consort
The Christmas Story
Each holiday season, the Waverly Consort’s
thirteen-member ensemble, under the direction of
Michael Jaffee, performs The Christmas Story on
tour. The program includes processionals, antiphons,
hymns, and Mass compositions from the tenth to
the fifteenth centuries and features both vocal and
instrumental music. These compositions, arranged as
a narrative, evoke the liturgical calendar for Advent
and Christmastide. Rooted in music manuscripts
and illuminated miniatures of the Middle Ages,
The Christmas Story premiered at The Metropolitan
Museum of Art in 1980 and returns every December
to The Cloisters, its only New York City venue.
* This concert is presented in The Fuentidueña Chapel at The Cloisters.
All seats are unreserved.
