New - Swiss Orbiter Watch
Swiss Orbiter Watch

Our watch’s triple face, with its distinctive orbiting circle design and multiple textures, is adapted from an elegant Swiss pocket watch made about 1820, now in the Museum’s collection. The first watches—then more like portable clocks—began to appear in the late 15th or early 16th century, after the invention of the spring-driven (rather than weight-driven) timekeeping device. In the second half of the 18th century in Europe, fashions in pocket watches changed dramatically toward a slimmer, less ornamented and more elegant style.

Stainless steel with gold overlay. Black calf-leather strap with simulated alligator texture adjusts from 7 1/8 in. to 8 3/4 in. Ronda 6 3/4 in. x 8 in. 1069 hour and minute hands plus small second hand. Water resistant to 30 meters. Case width 1 1/2 in.; length 9 1/2 in.
