The following programs for children up to age 12 and their adult companions will be offered by The Metropolitan Museum of Art during November and December 2003. These drop-in programs are free with Museum admission, and all materials are provided.
Start with Art – for ages three through seven: an hour of storytelling, sketching activities, and other ways of exploring art, scheduled from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, and December 6, and 13.
This program will also be offered weekdays from November 4 through December 12 as follows: Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3:30-4:40 p.m.; Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m.; and Fridays, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Look Again! – for ages five through 12: a 90-minute exploration of the history, meaning, and cross-cultural connections of works of art in the Museum through conversation, sketching, and once-monthly live performances, scheduled from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and again from 2:00-3:30 p.m., on Saturdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, and December 6 and 13; and from 11:00 a.m.-12:20 p.m. on Sundays, November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, and December 7 and 14.
El Premier Contacto con el Arte – a Spanish-language program for ages six through 12: two hours of discussion and sketching activities, focusing on a particular theme and a different area of the Museum each week, scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturdays, November 1, 8, 15, and 22, and December 6 and 13 (no program on November 29).
Hello, Met! – for ages five through 12: a stimulating introduction to the Museum and its encyclopedic collection for new and first-time visitors through discussion and sketching of some of its masterpieces, sometimes preceded by a short film, scheduled from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sundays, November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, and December 7 and 14.
Art Evenings for Families – for ages six through 12: an encounter with the Museum's collection through conversation and sketching, scheduled from 6:00-7:00 on Saturdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, and December 6 and 13.
The Charles H. Talley Lecture Series for Families – for ages six through 12: an exploration of the Museum's collection through discussion and sketching in various galleries, scheduled for 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Fridays, November 7, 14, 21, and 28, and December 5 and 12.
Workshop at The Cloisters – for ages four through 12: special gallery tours and art-making activities at The Cloisters, the branch of the Metropolitan Museum devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe, located in upper Manhattan, scheduled for 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturdays, November 1, and December 6 and 27.
A special family program, A Suit of Armor, How Did They Do That? will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, December 13 and 14. Supplementing the Look Again! program of the morning, these 20-minute sessions, which run from 1:00-4:00 p.m., explain through the handling of tools and materials how a work of art was created.
In addition, a selection of short films from the Museum's unique archive of family films that celebrate the holiday season will be shown on Saturday, December 20, from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
