Friends of Inanna
Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art


Named for the ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna, this group is comprised of individuals who are passionate about the art and culture of the ancient Near East. Six to eight special activities per year, hosted by the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art, are designed to enrich members' experience with the ancient past. Typical events include behind-the-scenes tours of special exhibitions and notable areas of the Museum's collection, private lectures from leading scholars and archaeologists, and curatorial presentations on topics related to the collection and exhibitions.

Annual dues: $4,000 ($3,150 is tax deductible)

Under-40 annual dues: $3,000 ($2,150 is tax deductible)

Highlights of Past Events

  • Lecture and presentation by Bonnie Burnham, President and Chief Executive Officer of the World Monuments Fund, entitled Babylon: Planning for the Future, followed by an intimate discourse
  • Visit to the Oriental Institute Museum of the University of Chicago for an exclusive guided tour of its Near Eastern galleries
  • Film viewing followed by a presentation by Suzy Hakimian, Director of the Beirut National Museum, entitled The Beirut National Museum: Preserving Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict
  • Behind-the-scenes preview of the treasure of Peter the Great in the exhibition Golden Deer of Eurasia: Scythian and Sarmatian Treasures from the Russian Steppes
