Small jar and cover decorated with chrysanthemums, cranes, and clouds

Korea

Not on view

This jar is a rare example of Goryeo celadon with gold decoration (several specks remain). This type became prevalent in Korea from the late thirteenth to the early fourteenth century, reflecting the tastes of the Mongols who ruled China during the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368). The cranes-and-clouds design is entirely Korean.
