Satyr and maenad

The motif of satyr chasing maenad is one of the most popular erotic subjects in both Etruscan and Greek art. The use of this composition for a circular mirror is a reminder of its frequent appearance on the interiors of Greek cups. In both cases, it is perfectly adapted to this tondo shape.
