Bronze mirror stand

Greek

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 157

The combination and placement of elements in such elaborate classical mirrors produce an architectural effect. The woman stands on a base with three bovine feet. Above her hover two erotes. Foxes and hares course around the circumference of the mirror disk, and a sphinx keeps watch at the top. The selection of motifs is conventional.
