Like many other artists active at the time of the introduction of the red-figure technique in Athens, about 530 B.C., the Euphiletos Painter worked in both the new red-figure and the old black-figure techniques. His name derives from the inscription praising Euphiletos as fair that occurs on several vases decorated by him. It appears on this one as well.
