Bronze handle from a hydria (water jar)

Greek

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Parallels to handles on intact bronze hydriai strongly suggest that this object was once itself attached to a hydria. The specific leaf pattern moreover, also recalls the handle design from a bronze hydria found in England, which may be dated by coin evidence to the 2nd century B.C.
