  • Description

    Patternbook (compendium) with various basic designs for coats of arms, followed by a section with (Islamic) geometric patterns, some of them inscribed with directions and most of them pounced. The book was most likely used in an inlayers or bookbinders workshop in the late 16th or 17th century.

    Signature: 'Di Gio: batta Cenni' (p. 17)

    Inscription: Various designs are inscribed with instructions in Medieval-Renaissance Spanish (a few words are in old Valencian dialect) in pen and brown ink of similar color as the drawings.

    Marking: Watermarks: crowned eagle with spread wings
