Even Zeus, the father of men and gods, was susceptible to the powers of Eros. His love affairs with mortal women and goddesses were legion, but he was also portrayed as the prototypical father figure and husband. Here, Zeus is seated on a throne as he gazes at a goddess in front of him. Eros flies toward Zeus to crown him with a laurel wreath and also looks at the goddess, who may represent Hera, the wife of Zeus, or one of his amorous conquests.
