    Date of 1865 is based on inscription on frontispiece & citation of December 1864 on the final page of the text. Attribution to G.W. Wilson is based on research of L. Goldschmidt (cf. Truthful Lens, cat. 83) for edition of 1868 which contained additional photographs inserted at the end of the text. See also JPGM collection for 1868 edition. Comparison of MMA & JPGM volumes shows plates in MMA volume of [1865] correspond to those published in 1868 edition. Note plate cited on List of Illustrations, "Castle of Invermark", p. 107, is no longer in volume.
