Sonya Blesofsky, artist
Open up a world of folding albums, pop-ups, and Japanese-inspired techniques in this one-day workshop led by artist Sonya Blesofsky, who will demonstrate kirigami, origami, and construction techniques as you explore a range of papers and materials. Visit the special exhibition Brush Writing in the Arts of Japan and learn about innovations in book arts from Japan and beyond. Guided and inspired by extraordinary works of art, participants experiment with the interplay of text, image, and structure to create a set of uniquely bound pages.
This workshop meets in the Met's galleries and studios. Participants must be 18 or older. All levels welcome. Space is limited. Purchase tickets below or at the Great Hall box office. Instructor: Sonya Blesofsky
Sonya Blesofsky received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and her BA from University of California, Santa Cruz. She has held artist residencies at institutions such as the the CUE Art Foundation, Smack Mellon, Dieu Donné Papermill, and the Legion of Honor, San Francisco. Blesofsky has most recently shown in New York at Mixed Greens, Plane Space, Cleopatra's, and Smack Mellon, and in San Francisco at Patricia Sweetow Gallery, Mission 17, and Pond Gallery.
