Frequently Asked Questions

Apollo Circle Members

What do my Membership dues support?

Proceeds from Apollo Circle Membership dues support The Apollo Circle Fund for Art Conservation, helping to preserve the Museum's collections for future generations and to address the many mysteries of history and authenticity that surround objects of all kinds. The Metropolitan has four distinct conservation departments—Paintings, Objects, Paper, and Textiles—as well as specialized conservators devoted to Photographs, Asian Art, Arms and Armor, Musical Instruments, and The Costume Institute. The Apollo Circle Fund for Art Conservation benefits these departments by providing support for activities such as fellowships, publications, and critical conservation research.

When is a good time to join?

Feel free to join at anytime! Your Apollo Circle Membership begins the day you sign up and is active for one year. We have events year round, so no matter when you join you'll soon receive an invitation to a special event.

The Membership Categories page says that Apollo Circle dues are $1,200 for individuals or couples, and that individual Members may bring a guest to events. How does this work?

People who join as a couple will receive Membership cards and invitations with both names listed. If one person is unable to attend an event, the other person is welcome to bring a guest instead. People who join as individuals are welcome to bring a guest to our exclusive Apollo Circle events. On very rare occasions, due to space constraints, events are limited to Apollo Circle Members only.

How frequent are the events and what is the general format?

We host an average of one event per month, often an evening reception and presentation or tour with a Met curator. We also host a variety of other special programs, including Mini Courses that provide in-depth looks into the work of the Museum's conservation, curatorial, and education departments; an annual supper club; visits to art collectors' homes to view private collections; and a rooftop reception and sunset viewing of an exhibition in the summer. One of our biggest events each year is the Apollo Circle Benefit in the fall.

Who are The Apollo Circle Members?

Our Members come from diverse backgrounds and include students and professionals working in a wide array of fields, including art, design, policy, law, business, fashion, medicine, and more. All of our Members share a common interest in learning more about art and the Met's encyclopedic collections within a social and educational setting that encourages friendly discourse across many disciplines.
