amarcord—Beata Virgo: Marian Devotional Music from Medieval and Renaissance Europe

Amarcord

The Leipzig-based a cappella ensemble amarcord presents a special seventy-fifth anniversary program inspired by works of art in The Cloisters' unique collection. Fascinated by the many representations of the Virgin Mary during their previous visits to the Museum, the singers will perform Marian antiphons and motets interspersed with chant taken from the proper for the feast of the Immaculate Conception. The program features music from France, England, Spain, Germany, and the Lowlands, including works of Gilles Binchois, Josquin des Préz, and Hildegard von Bingen.
