Dominated by a twelfth-century marble ciborium, or altar canopy, Gallery 304 exhibits works of art in all media from about 1050 to 1300.
In addition to large-scale sculpture and stained-glass windows, the room contains masterpieces in ivory, enamel, and precious metals in the Romanesque and Early Gothic styles. Many were made for use on and around the altar, while others were used in private devotion, and some, like game pieces, reveal secular life in the Middle Ages.
