Miguel Hernández Spanish

Not on view

This collection of poems and fifteen linocut illustrations by Miguel Hernandez is one of the first publications produced by Jean Dubuffet’s Compagnie de l'Art Brut, established to promote the study and appreciation of art brut or “raw art” – art unrestrained by formal academic art training or instruction, including work often commonly referred to as outsider art, self-taught art, and “naïve art.” In contrast to finely-printed livres d’artistes – luxury objects which are produced and bound using expensive, luxurious materials and processes, L’Art Brut publications in this series are characterized by their small format, newsprint-like paper, and images hand-carved and printed by the artist/author.
