Headpiece

Designer Stephen Jones British

Not on view

This whimsical headpiece by milliner Stephen Jones for John Galliano is a characteristic example of the creative alchemy between the designers who share a lighthearted, romantic aesthetic. Galliano's runway collection, inspired by the idea of adults playing a game of children's dress up was accessorized with Jones' inflatable designs. This example resembles a child's pool float, but also recalls 1960s Pop Art motifs and Dalí's Surrealist Mae West Lips sofa based his newspaper collage "Mae West's Face which may be used as a Surrealist Apartment" (1934-35). Its shape and scale convey an exaggerated sense of femininity and glamour.
