Not on view

Engraving, part of 'Habitus variarum orbis gentium' (Costumes of the various peoples of the world), representing the costumes of men and women from various parts of the world, engraved after designs by Boissard and published by Rutz in 1581.

This engraving represents two Gaetan women and a Gaetan girl. On the left, the first woman wears a shawl over her head, shoulders and back, over a dress with a paneled skirt, shorter on the front and with a short train on the back, over wide trousers. Her hair is wrapped in a turban under the shawl and her feet are bare.

On the center, the Gaetan girl wears a layered draped dress that covers her body entirely from the neck down. Her hair is braided and held up, partially covered with a striped fabric. She wears long pendant earrings.

On the right, the second Gaetan woman wears a hip-length, paneled, long-sleeved jacket, open over a long dress with layered skirt and a fringed apron with horizontal stripes with floral patterns. Her hair is covered with a cap and veil.
