Not on view

Left side of a three-part view of an ideal city, known through the title on the center sheet as 'Vera Antiqui Capitoli Descriptio', or a true representation of the buildings on the Capitoline Hill during Roman Antiquity. The style of the building is based on Quattrocento ideas about Roman architecture, and ties into a genre now considered to be 'fantastical reconstructions' of ruins or literary descriptions of buildings. The history of this print can be traced back only to the mid-16th century, however, when it was published by Antonio Salamanca in Rome. It is known in various editions with the publisher's signatures of Lafreri, Claudio Duchetti, Henricus van Schoel and Giovanni Orlandi.
