Necklace
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. In an interview with Barbara Radice, Sottsass described his jewelry from the 1960s as simple pieces with ritualistic meaning, meant for "queens or Sumerian priestesses rather than for society ladies." He eschewed precious stones in favor of inexpensive materials, such as the quartz in this piece. However, he used gold rather than base metals due to his "vision of gold as the continuous thread that binds together the destinies of mankind." He also considered its color extremely moving.
