This drawing relates to an oil that Kauffmann painted for Catherine the Great in 1785. Servius Tullius was King of Rome between 578-535 BC and here is shown as child in the house of his predecessor, King Tarquinius Priscus. Servius would later marry the latter's daughter Tullia and then be murdered by their daughter and son-in-law.
