Greenwich Park No.1

Joseph Pennell American

Not on view

Pennell, a Philadelphia-born Quaker, spent the first two decades of his career abroad, living primarily in London, where he became a close associate of Whistler. Here, he describes the Naval Hospital at Greenwich, from the steep hill in Greenwich Park. The dome of St. Paul's Cathedral can be glimpsed at right over the trees, and the artist printed about fifty proofs.
