"Chanot Model" Violin

possibly French

Not on view

This cornerless violin has a body built according to the model of François Chanot, though this instrument was built by an anonymous builder according to some of his ideas. Trained in his father's workshop in Mirecourt, France, Chanot introduced his model after he moved to Paris in 1818. The unusual design was the result of Chanot's experimentation with violin acoustics.
