Six volumes of The Journal of Design and Manufactures were published between 1849 and 1852 by Chapman & Hall. The Journal of Design and Manufactures was a seminal text on English textile design and its relation to 19th century manufacturing. The journal included samples of fabrics, engravings and educational texts related to the history and future of textile design in England. This particular volume includes nearly one hudred engravings, forty-five fabric samples by companies such as Potter and Co., Gillet, Foster and Co.,Strines Printing Company, as well as a plan of the building for the Great Exhibition of 1851.
