Colson recently created a series of four prints, each of which presents as its subject a pie chart. Appropriated from the statistical world of market research, the charts parody cultural phenomena and current events from surfing the Internet to reporting UFO sightings. Here, Colson honed in on America's obsession with appearance, informing us of ways to improve our looks by "getting enough sleep" and "eating right." The chart's straightforward design belies its technical sophistication. It required six intaglio plates to create the dark background and colored icons.
