Small Globular Jar

Early Dynastic Period

Not on view

This small vessel takes an unusual shape that has few parallels. However, its size, material, and decorative element suggests an Early Dynastic date. The base is particularly interesting as it is carved to imitate a rope. The artisans of Early Dynastic Period often imitated organic elements in stone, here perhaps a shallow jar stand woven from grass. Small stone vessels could be found as burial goods.
