Man Ray's studio in Paris was a nerve center for avant-garde experimentation in the 1920s. Here a group of the artist's friends and collaborators watch a movie, probably one of Man Ray's own fanciful films, which is projected onto a white board propped against a camera case. Surrounded by the evidence of Man Ray's talent, the audience consists of (from left to right): Count Étienne de Beaumont, an unidentified man, Marc Allegret, and Man Ray.
