Terracotta aryballos (oil flask)

Greek, Corinthian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Aryballoi with floral quatrefoils were produced in very great number through the sixth century B.C. and probably into the fifth. They were also widely exported. The simple but distinctive decoration suggests that these vases may have had a specific contents.
