Glass jug with trefoil rim

Roman

Not on view

Translucent purple; handle in same color.
Rim folded over, in, and pressed into sides of broad, flaring mouth, then tooled into trefoil shape; cylindrical neck, expanding downwards; almost horizontal shoulder; squat, bulbous body, curving in to rounded bottom; applied base ring with two irregular trails extending across undercurve of body; rod handle applied as a pad to top of body, drawn up and outward, then turned in and down, and trailed on to underside of mouth and back of rim.
Part of rim and mouth missing, and one small hole and some cracks in body; very many bubbles, elongated in neck, and one projecting inclusion on shoulder surrounded by internal cracks; deep pitting, iridescence, and creamy weathering.

The base ring has been added carelessly so that the jug does not stand upright.
