Parasol

French

Not on view

Parasols such as this were an important part of the fashionable ensemble. Undoubtedly, this served as a feminine conceit with very little function since the sheer fabric provided little shade. The handle of this parasol is particularly stunning, and the black and white color motif is carried through on all parts of the piece. The provenance adds extra interest as it was donated by the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust established in 1938.
