Quilt, Crazy pattern

Aletta Whitehouse Davis American

Not on view

Each block of this quilt was pieced and appliquéd onto a backing, and then embroidered and decorated with a variety of motifs. The blocks are joined together without any sashing. The joined blocks are surrounded by a five-inchwide gold silk-velvet border. The quilt is pieced of many different colored fabrics, but most blocks feature a larger patch of black velvet embroidered with a Rower. The backing is a brown weft-faced cotton. The piece is not quilted; the layers are tied together every four inches with blue and yellow cotton embroidery threads.
