This tulle and feather dress designed by John Galliano for spring/summer 1995, was donated to The Costume Institute by Ms. Linda Evangelista, who wore it on the cover of Harper's Bazaar in January 1995, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Evangelista, part of the generation of 1990s supermodels, was also photographed wearing it to various red carpets events.

The delicate corset boning of the top, which is covered with feathers, and the extravagant use of tulle, are hallmarks of Galliano's couture skills which he already applied in his own ready-to-wear line and which he later pushed even further at the revered house of Christian Dior.

John Galliano, who was ten years in the fashion business in 1995, was considered the “high of the Paris season” by the press, and was appointed creative director one year later at the House of Dior in 1996.

This dress of illustrious provenance is a key witness to the years leading up to Galliano’s appointment at Dior.
