Contemporary green morocco binding with arms of the book’s former owner, Charles-Philippe de France (1757-1836), comte d’Artois, later Charles X, with gilt ornamental leafy border and fleurons in all four corners; all edges gilt; red endleaves.

Providing the international common medium of scripture, the Vulgate Bible continued to be regarded as the standard scholarly Bible throughout most of the seventeenth century.
